Beauty & Health Tips For Women Over 40

Women over 40 have to understand that 40 is the new 30. Age is a number, ladies, and you are as young and hot as ever! One look at the media, or even out the window, and you’ll see how women your age are carrying themselves around, rivaling the youngest of beauties, turning heads, and owning the sidewalks with their fierceness.
So, how can you capitalize, further enhance, and show off that beauty that is a 40-year-old you? By using these simple beauty and health tips!

#1 You Are What You Eat

It’s true what they say, that beauty comes from within. And it’s also true that you are what you eat. If all you do is sit on the couch, eating potato chips, you are referred to as a couch potato! But if you eat right instead, it’s scientifically proven to have positive beauty and health effects.

Eating right means you’re keeping your weight in check, you’re feeling better in your body, you have much more energy, you sleep better, and you look better overall. A well-rested face, a slim figure, and improved skin, nails, and hair thanks to all the nutrients from a balanced diet don’t go unnoticed.

Being 40 or older doesn’t mean you should let yourself go, motherhood or not. It means you should be focused on your health and beauty now more than ever. It’s taken you decades to become who you are, so now is your moment to show that resplendor to the world.

#2 Get Exercise

Something else that is also unfortunately true is that your metabolism slows with age. A few reasons for this include muscle loss, being less active and the natural aging of your metabolic processes. When you get older, you need to stay active to maintain muscle mass and keep your body fat levels low. This will help your BMR stay higher, which means your body burns more calories, and will help you feel like your metabolism is higher.

The good news is that it doesn’t mean you’re destined to get fat. In fact, if you’re active throughout your life, from your 20’s and onto your elderly stage, you’re more likely to stay in shape. It will keep your metabolism from plummeting.

#3 Drink Plenty of Water

Water really is the world’s fountain of youth. It increases energy, relieves fatigue, promotes weight loss by making you feel fuller for longer, flushes out toxins, improves skin complexion, maintains regularity, boosts your immune system, and serves as a natural headache remedy.

In other words, it saves you from the adverse effects of soda, and keeps your skin looking better for longer. It also helps you save money, because you’re not getting those high sugar and fat-filled lattes.

#4 Embrace Your Age

In the words of Amy Smilovic, founder and creative director of Tibi during a Vogue interview, “So much of fashion is wrapped up in the confidence of the wearer.” When you’re super young, in your teens or 20’s, you wouldn’t even dream of trying out some of the outfits you would in your 30’s. The same can be said of those women in their 30’s, they’d never wear the outfits that some women in their 40’s or 50’s pull off.

You’re just so reserved and concerned about people viewing you negatively. This is why when you reach 40+, you’re in the golden prime time of fashion. You’ve been there, you’ve done that, you know what works and what doesn’t, and most importantly, you know who you are. And that is something to enjoy and celebrate with fashion you would have never been able to even think of at the age of 25.

This is the time to appreciate fabrics and patterns, colors, accessories, and layers. Forget showing too much skin, leave that for the insecure younger women who need people’s attention to feel good about themselves. You carry on being your elegant, fashionable self and watch others get envious.

#5 Don’t Forget Your Alone Time

If you’re 40+ you probably have children to tend to, or at least talk to every so often over Skype, FaceTime, or just a phone call. You’re probably married and spending time with your partner. You may have friends that you’ve had since youth, or new friends from work or those weekend cooking classes you like to take for fun.

And while all of that is well and good, it requires a lot of time spent socializing. When you’re not, you’re probably cleaning and organizing things around the house, cooking or doing laundry, or even running errands.

This is why it’s so important to carve out some time for yourself. Time to take a bath, eat a little bowl of strawberries in peace, give yourself a manicure and pedicure, and use a face scrub. Bust out those teeth whitening strips, and indulge in a book or a Netflix show you’ve been dying to watch. Think of it as a date with yourself, to do something for yourself for a change.

Having that alone time to recharge and stay in touch with yourself is absolutely important, no matter how old or young you are!
